INSIDE + OUT = Unstoppable Photoprotection

Sunscreens are the skin's essential first line of defense to protect against damaging UVA and UVB rays, shielding from the outside. But did you know that even the best broad-spectrum sunscreen only blocks up to 55% of the damaging UV-induced radicals (UV induced molecule that accelerate sun damage).

Antioxidants protect from the inside by providing eight times the skin's natural protection against free radical damage and, once absorbed, can't be rubbed or washed off. But you need to know that all antioxidants are not created equal. Studies at Duke University show that for a topical vitamin C to be effective it must meet the following criteria:

1) CONTAIN PURE L-ASCORBIC ACID

Vitamin C derivatives like ascorbyl palmitate and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate are not absorbed by the skin or converted to vitamin C in significant concentrations.

2) HAVE HIGH CONCENTRATIONS OF L-ASCORBIC ACID TO BE MOST EFFECTIVE

Vitamin C based serum must be formulated with high, stable L-ascorbic acid (with at least a 20% concentration) to be effective.

3) BE ACIDIC

Vitamin C products must have a low pH of 3.5 or below for optimal
absorption.

SkinCeuticals are the true pioneers of antioxidant serums because they have been scientifically evaluated and proven to work. SkinCeuticals also paved the way by being the first to combine pure vitamins C and E for the most comprehensive protection. They also achieved unprecedented results with the addition of Ferulic Acid which doubles environmental protection and reduces sunburn cells up to 96% in UV-irradiated skin.

I applaud you for using a vitamin C serum, but make sure yours meets the above criteria to be effective, or you are just wasting your money.

When used together, a SkinCeuticals antioxidant serum and sunscreen provide the most comprehensive protection against UV-induced photodamage and skin cancer. Of course, we try not to get sunburn but remember if you do - apply your SkinCeuticals serum to the burn for an immediate reduction in sunburn cells.
