SHADES OF SPRING from Cara Linda
Makeup trends continue to be a deliberate collision of the dramatic and natural, shimmery and matte, bold and muted. This look is elegant, but spirited and modern.
EYES
Spring continues the call for eye intensity, with the focus on eye-liner. Black is the first line of choice, but thin and more natural with other shade choices including mocha and metallic. Keep the lid nude, go with a shimmery peach or pearly pink or bring a bold shadow to serve as the face’s big color splash. Lashes are long, and eyebrows well groomed. We’re not tweezing them too thin or drawing them on anymore.
LIPS
Pinky browns are the best for almost everyone’s lips, giving them a bit of warmth and a bit of cool. You’ll also see coral this season and lots of shimmer and shine, even when the hue is neutral. This seasons hottest new color is orange. As for lip liner, neutral is the only kind you should consider.
CHEEKS
Cheek colors are soft with sheer pinks, peach, corals and gold (colors that can be used on the eyes, as well). The season’s bronzing is subtle – a warm honey-bronze. The bronze tanned look is out, “fresh” is in.
REASONS TO TRY MINERAL MAKEUP
IT DOESN’T CAUSE BREAKOUTS
Mineral makeup is makeup of finely milled powders that come directly from elements of the earth. The make-up made solely from them is free of potentially irritating artificial fragrances, colors, and preservatives. Because it is noncomedongenic (won’t clog pores), it’s a good choice for oily or acne-prone skin.
IT PROVIDES SUNSCREEN
Zinc and Titanium oxide, typically found in this makeup, provide UVA and UVB protection (SPF 15-26) which is great for women who don’t like to wear sunscreen under makeup. While mineral cosmetics are fine for everyday protection, you’ll still need traditional sunscreen for extended exposure.
IT LOOKS MORE NATURAL
These products come in powder form, so you never feel heavy or look cakey. Coverage can be layered for more coverage and your complexion will still appear smooth. Mineral makeup also offers excellent luminosity, giving the skin a natural glow.
EASY STEPS TO A FLAWLESS FINISH
For the most seamless coverage, choose a natural-bristled, tapered brush. Dip the brush into the powder, and swirl the bristles against the inside of the container’s lid ; this will help the brush absorb the minerals. Tap the brushes side on the top of the lid to remove any excess. Buff skin in a circular motion to disperse the product evenly.
