Here are a few things that I suggest to maintain healthy skin this winter:
- Rather than changing moisturizers you may need to boost its hydrating capabilities by adding a serum under it. I love Skin Ceuticals B5 Gel which I refer to as a "drink of water for the skin" because it contains hyaluronic acid.
- Exfoliation is a must to remove dry skin. You may opt for a light exfoliating wash, a bi-weekly mask or and alpha-hydroxy serum at bedtime. You may also need to back off Retinols completely or use them less often than usual if they seem to make your skin more flakey. Professional treatments, such as microdermabrasion, are a wonderful choice for a deep exfoliation that will leave your skin feeling and looking its best.
- Remember eye cream around the delicate eye area and lip balm to seal in the moisture on your lips. Our lips tend to chap in the winter due to dryness so choose a lip product containing glycerin or beeswax and avoid those containing phenols.
- Don't forget your body, feet and hands! Use a body polish or gentle exfoliating brush in the shower to remove dry skin. Always follow up with a moisturizer as soon as you get out of the shower. Skin Ceuticals Primacy Hydra Balm is a wonderful choice because it acts as a barrier to keep moisture in.
- Avoid long tub soaks and showers which can deplete your skin of its moisture. Warm or tepid water rather than hot is also a better choice.
Winter is the season for regeneration as nature takes this time to rest and regroup. I invite you to invest in yourself and nurture yourself this season so you too can blossom this spring.
Quick Tips & What's On Sale This Month
Good News! There are many ways to protect your skin during the winter months. Be sure to drink lots of water and limit your alcohol intake because it dehydrates the skin and causes it to look less supple. And don't forget your sunscreen!
Invest in a humidifier, at least for your bedroom, and run it throughout the night. It's not only good for your health, it's good for your hair and skin.
